The 68-strong field of senior golfers moved down the coast line from Lonsdale to The Sands Torquay today for the second and final round of the Surfcoast Senior Amateur. Both club’s facilities have been presented in fantastic condition and should be commended on their excellent hospitality.

Overnight leader and local Ross Bottomley (Torquay) wasn’t able to capitalise on his two shot lead, another local to the region John Owen (Barwon Heads) returned a neat 2-under par, bringing his 36-hole total to an even par 140. Ken O’Brien (Rossdale) was one of two players to share the third best score for round one, a 2-under par round for him today brought him to just one shot off the winning pace of Owen. John Kelly (Metropolitan) and Andrew Seddon (Lakeside) finished tied third overall on 146 strokes.

In the nett section, Seddon took out top honours on a countback from Wayne Aigner (Sandhurst), both returning nett scores in the 60’s for their two rounds. A two round total of 132 (8-under par) gave the pair a convincing 6-shot lead from third places Ignatius Duivenvoorden (Yarram).

Helen Pascoe (Buninyong) has put in a tremendous effort accumulating 56 scratch stableford points, only 7 shots over par for 36-holes, to take home this year’s women’s title by 11 points. Rosie Glasson (Twin Waters, QLD) returned two rounds of 27 points for a total of 54 to finish second, ahead of Kerrin Biddle (Thirteenth Beach) on 52.

Trish Barr (The National) was victorious in the women’s stableford event, posting a first round score of 36 points before going one better in the second with 37 for a total of 73 points. Pascoe and Glasson finished behind Barr but having won prizes in the scratch section they were ineligible, second place went to Maria Kohut from Ringwood with a two round total of 62 on a countback from Sally Warburton (Hamilton).
