Shani Waugh joins Organising Committee

Golf Australia continues its commitment to establish the 2007 MFS Women’s Australian Open as one of Australia s elite sporting events, with the announcement that Shani Waugh has joined the organising committee. Paul McNamee, Executive Chairman Australian Opens, Golf Australia said, Shani is a highly respected and popular player on the tours. We are delighted that she has accepted our invitation to be part of the committee. Golf Australia is committed to delivering the best event possible for all. An important aspect is to better understand the players needs. Shani brings to the table the players view and we greatly appreciate her further commitment and support to the event. The champion player has accepted the role, which will assist in the development of the MFS Women’s Open by providing insights across a range of subjects from the players perspective. I am delighted to have been given this opportunity to join the organising committee and help shape the future of the championship. I am part of a huge golfing community and fully intend to leverage my position in garnering valuable information, Waugh commented. Shani turned professional in 1991 and joined the Women Professional Golfers&apos European Tour, now known as the Ladies European Tour (LET). In 1995, she qualified for the LPGA Tour and, to this day, continues to compete on both tours, and in Australia. The 2006 World Cup Australian representative has a long list of accolades including titles for the 1996 Ladies Costa Azul Open in Portugal, 2003 Wales WPGA Championship, the 2005 Thailand Ladies Open and finishing in the top three at the 2006 Tenerife Ladies Open.
