Shepparton claim Bronze Teams’ title

Shepparton GC have claimed this year’s Bronze Teams' title by the narrowest of margins over Patterson River & Southern, whilst local Southern member Carol Besley claimed the Victorian Salver crown.

Bleak conditions greeted a total of 77 players made up of 63 players within the Bronze Teams’ event & 14 players competing in the Victorian Salver event. This year marks the first year these two long standing events have been played concurrently. As the day progressed, scoring conditions improved as the early morning showers began to clear with sunshine emerging which was welcomed by the field.

In the Victorian Women’s Salver, Carol Besley (Southern) used her local knowledge to her advantage finishing with a stroke score of 85 which was good enough for a two-shot victory. In second place was Box Hill local Joanne Baumgartner who returned a solid gross score of 87.

In the Newton Lees nett event, Yarra Yarra’s Thanh Chau produced the day’s best nett round, a classy nett 73 to emerge the victor by four strokes from another Southern local Jacqueline Taylor.

In the Bronze Teams’ event, Huntingdale’s Vanessa Kemp took individual honours returning the day’s finest nett round, a brilliant 38 stableford points from a daily handicap of 29. The Bronze Teams’ event was claimed by Shepparton GC represented by Maree Teague, Sally Nayler & Diane Ingram with an aggregate score of 93 points.

Patterson River GC & host club Southern finished in joint second place just one point shy of the top prize with an aggregate score of 92 points.

Golf Victoria would like to thank Southern GC for the hospitality the club provided to all players in hosting both events.
