Douglas Francis (Metropolitan) is the overnight leader at the 2018 Shepparton Senior Amateur after firing a 74 in beautiful conditions. His round was highlighted by a bogey free front nine resulting in a one under 36. Despite the horrid weather over the weekend, the course held up extremely well and blue skies greeted players for Day 1 of this year’s event. Francis will take a two shot lead into the final day with Portsea’s Alan Bullas sitting in second after a 76. Joining the two in the final group will be Melton Valley’s Mick Kaufman and Doug Bachli trophy leader Ian McCleary (Kooringal), after they both came in with 78.
The nett section has been dominated by locals with the top three positions all being held by Shepparton members. Out in front is Vin Edwards who shot a nett 70 playing off a handicap of 12. Geoff Hamill was the only other player to break his handicap coming in with 71 playing off 19. A host of players sit at third with 73 including Shepparton’s Peter Eade, Alan Bullas (Portsea), Mick Kaufman (Melton Valley) and Douglas Francis (Metropolitan).
Helen Pascoe (Bunniyong) continues a stellar season as she enters the final day leading the women’s scratch stableford event. Her 25 points sees her out in front by three shots over Laurence Bargibant. Kerry Scales (Port Fairy) will join the pair in the final group after her score of 16 points.
Bargibant leads the way in the stableford section with a score of 31 points. Sally Nayler will be looking to use her local knowledge after the Shepparton member had 27 points to see her tied for second with Pakenham’s Tina Cowie.
