Michael Sim has cruised to a runaway six-shot victory in the inaugural Stonebrae Classic as four Australians cracked a top-10 berth. The 24-year-old fired his second seven-under 64 for the tournament to post an 18-under total to ease to his second win on the Nationwide Tour. He also won the 2006 PalmettoPride Classic. Fellow Aussie Cameron Percy tied for second alongside American John Kimbell at 12-under, while Andrew Buckle and Nick Flanagan were among a group of four players in a share of sixth at eight-under-par. Sim got off to the perfect start with a birdie on his first hole and pulled away from the rest of the field when he knocked in three consecutive birdies at the 6th, 7th and 8th holes. An eagle on the par-five 15th further consolidated his position at the top of the leaderboard and despite giving a shot back at the next hole, pars on the two closing holes sealed victory and the $US108,000 (A$150,000) first prize. “I played great golf all week and hit the ball great,” Sim said. “I set some high goals this year and this was one of them. I&aposm happy to get off to a good start for the year.” “It was one of my goals for the year, was trying to finish No.1. I&aposm off to a great start. Maybe I can pick up another win shortly. You never know what can happen.”
