Glenelg&aposs Matt McGowan in action for Glenelg Metropolitan Pennant – Round 2 Summary It’s a four-way tie at the top of the Simpson Cup table with Glenelg, Highercombe, Kooyonga and The Grange all winning their weekend matches to remain undefeated after two rounds of the Simpson Cup season. In one of the early matches starting off the 10th tee, Glenelg continued its winning form by defeating Mt Lofty 5.5 – 1.5. For each of the past 3 seasons, Glenelg opening win has come in round 4, so to be sitting two from two, sees Glenelg off to a flying start. Glenelg s bottom three of Andrew Grzybowski, Josh Hayes and Matt Overall got the job done again, each winning convincing over Rivett, Henshaw and Goers. At number 4, Mt Lofty s Phil Roberts defeated Anthony Olsen 4&3 to secure a point, while Ramon Thorne in his first Simpson Cup match squared with Matt McGowan. Glenelg s top order secured the win, with number one Campbell Rawson defeating Ty Turnbull 2&1 and Lachlan Booth overcoming former Country Champion Tim Atze 3&1. In the other early match, a strong Kooyonga team defeated Tea Tree Gully 5 – 2 with Kooyonga s bottom five of Bishop, Fuller, Somerfield, Speirs and Riches, all securing wins. Greg Blewett and Chris Austin fought hard for the Gullies winning their matches over Tim Baker and Stephen Speirs to avoid a whitewash. The clash between Highercombe and Royal Adelaide proved to be the tight battle expected, with Highercombe securing a close 4 – 3 victory. The contest was in the balance early with Highercombe claiming match 6 and 7 courtesy of Andrew Couzner and Scott Mills, before Royal Adelaide hit back with wins to Cameron Baulderstone and Matt Lawson. At number 3, Nick May used all his experience to defeat Patric Kroschel 3&1, before the ever reliable Ben Hallam secured the win for Highercombe by defeating Stephen Hudson 3&1. The final match saw Highecombe s number one Mark Deacon lose his first match in over a season, going down to the talented Louis Fuller 2&1. The Grange versus Flagstaff Hill match could have gone either way with some tight tussles throughout. Grange secured its four games, courtesy of Nick Cheary, Ben Stowe, Anthony Murdaca and Jack Williams while Justin Crowder squared his match with Dale Baker. For Flagstaff Hill both James Coulson and Scott Ready were winners, however The Grange claimed the win 4.5 – 2.5 to sit atop of the Simpson Cup ladder. Next week s round three matches are held at Glenelg with the host side primed for a battle with Royal Adelaide. In other matches, Kooyonga is well placed to account for Flagstaff Hill and Grange would be keen to see Tea Tree Gully stay winless. The match between Highercombe and Mt Lofty should be closer than expected.
