Kevin Sims has made his first senior event a memorable one, taking out the Tocumwal Senior Amateur by a single shot.
Trailing by one shot overnight, a consistent second round with 15 pars saw Sims finish with 73 for the day and the overall victory.
Sims was stoked to be the winner, not even realising the event was on until the last minute.
“I was at the pro shop at Riversdale on Tuesday when the pro told me I should play more senior events. I jumped online and got myself a late entry to the event which turned out to be a great idea!” Sims said.
“I hope to play more events as the year goes on. The course here is magnificent and I had a lot of fun.”
Runner-up to Sims was Kooringal’s Ian McCleary.
McCleary was consistent over the two rounds with 75 and 74.
The result for McCleary has seen him catapult into first position in the 2019 Doug Bachli trophy rankings.
In the men’s net, Ignatius Duivenvoorden has taken home another title after two great rounds of 69 anmd 72.
The Yarram member took home his second tournament for the year and has improved his lead at the top of the Paul Lulofs rankings.
Helen Pascoe has continued her terrific 2019 season with another victory in the women’s scratch stableford section.
Pascoe was consistent over the two rounds with 31 and 31 to win by six shots.
Runner-up to Pascoe was 2018 winner Judy Langford.
Langford finished with two rounds of 26 for a total of 52.
In the women’s stableford, Roslyn Black had two great rounds of 36 and 37 to win the event by six.
Local Tocumwal member Janyce Brown was runner up with a total of 73.
