RED-HOT Todd Sinnott has continued the amateur invasion of professional tournaments around Australia, taking control of the PGA Tour of Australasia's Melbourne Q-School event.
The Melburnian, prominent throughout the recent Australian Masters and Emirates Australian Open, carded a second-round 70 at the Sandhurst Club to add to his opening 66 to be eight under par and a runaway four-shot leader.
Remarkably, amateurs fill the next three spots on the leaderboard with Paul Bucan (-4), Karl Knedler and Travis Sharpe (both -3) among only nine players better than par.
After tomorrow’s third round, only the top 19 players progress to final stage of Q-School.
Some more familiar professional names lead the other stage one events in Queensland and New South Wales.
Matthew Ballard has taken the lead at Noosa Springs after a solid second round of 3-under 69.
Ballard’s 5-under total is three shots better than Jonathon Holder, Richard Caracella, Paul Hayden and Luke Henwood with 16 positions available into the final stage.
Maintaining the top position at Riverside Oaks is Neven Basic following a second round 68 to be nine under overall and a shot clear of Alex Katholos.
Amateurs Andrew Kirkman (-6) and David Randall (-5) are also in the top four in the Sydney event.
