A six-strong Australian contingent will tackle the Women’s British Open at Turnberry from tonight.
The red-hot Aussie battery, spearheaded by world No.16 Minjee Lee and former champion Karrie Webb, will tackle the famous Scottish west coast course that has been bought and slightly modified by controversial American presidential hopeful Donald Trump.
Joining the Australian force are last week’s LET winner Rebecca Artis, fellow New South Welshwoman Sarah Kemp and Victorians Su Oh and Stacey Keating.
The course holds fond memories for Webb, the 2002 champ at Turnberry by two shots at 15 under par.
But with a 144-strong field again for this year’s fourth women’s major championship, the Queenslander will have a tall order to win her eighth individual major.
Defending champion American Mo Martin returns, while world No.1 Inbee Park, 2013 champion Stacy Lewis and world No.2 Lydia Ko will be among the chief contenders.
The first round tee times (AEST) for the Australians are Webb at 4.25pm, Lee at 5.53pm, Artis at 6.36pm, Kemp at 7.43pm, Keating at 9.32pm and Oh at 10.38pm.
Foxtel will show round one live from 10pm AEST on Fox Sports 5.
