Skarpnord edges ahead in Morocco

Norway&aposs Marianne Skarpnord took the first-round lead at the Lalla Meryem Cup on Thursday with a five-under 66. Six birdies in 12 holes for the 27-year-old saw her to the helm by a stroke from South Africa&aposs Melissa Eaton who carded five birdies and a bogey to be one off the pace. Englishwoman Charley Hull is three under, followed by Thailand&aposs Ariya Jutanugarn and English trio Sophie Walker, Holly Clyburn and Melissa Reid all on two under at the Golf de l&aposOcean in Agadir, Morocco. A group of seven round out the top 10 in a tie for eighth spot including Scottish amateur Kelsey MacDonald on one under. Spain&aposs Emma Cabrera-Bello sister of touring professional male Rafael is among the players on one under, with Americans Mallory Fraiche, Beth Allen and Katie Burnett all in the mix. England&aposs Laura Davies, a Ladies European Tour winner on 45 occasions, is among six who shot even-par rounds to begin the week in north Africa. A shot further back is defending champion Karen Lunn of Australia on one over in a tie for 21st place.
