Smith and Park win QLD Boys’ and Girls’ Amateurs

In what was a thrilling final day, Cameron Smith (Wantima) and Jessica Park (Brisbane) have won the 2010 Queensland Boys&apos & Girls&apos Amateur Championship respectively at the Indooroopilly Golf Club. Smith proved too strong carding rounds of 70, 68, 65, 68 – 271 to finish 17-under par for the championship, taking the trophy by an impressive six strokes and defending his title. Redcliffe&aposs Taylor MacDonald was the nearest challenger finishing runner-up after returning scores of 70, 68, 68, 71 – 277 (-11) for the 72 holes. Nicholas Smits (Colonial) was unable to capitalise on his round one and two lead after carding rounds of 69, 68 ,71 ,74 – 282 (-6). Smith will now join an elite few that have managed to successfully defended their title some of which include Shane Tait (1987, 88), Adam Scott (1997, 98), Andrew Buckle (1999, 2000), and Andrew Dodt (2003, 04). In a thrilling finish to the 72 hole Girls Championship, Brisbane&aposs Jessica Park edged out Christina Mew (Royal Queensland) on the second playoff hole with a two metre birdie putt. Park came from behind overnight, firing a 2-under par 72 today to finish one over for the championship to match overnight leader Mew. Park was consistent all week carding rounds of 76, 76, 73, 72 (297) 1-over for the championship. Mew finished with rounds of 75, 74, 74, 74 (297) setting the scene for a playoff. Interestingly, like Smith, Park also defended her title this year after winning the Championship in 2009.
