Australian Boys’ Amateur Championship – Final Round

Queenslander and National Squad member Cameron Smith followed in the footsteps of former champions Adam Scott and Jason Day by winning the Australian Boys’ Amateur Championship by eight strokes at Carnarvon Golf Club.
Smith finished with rounds of 73-67-71-68 to finish the championship at 9-under par.

“It’s really good,” Smith said, reflecting on the championship honour roll.
“Adam and Jason are doing really well so it would be awesome be where they are.”
“My goal is just to keep improving and keep working on my game,” Smith said.
Fellow National Squad member Jake Higginbottom (NSW) finished runner up with a final round 1-under par 71 to be at 1-under for the championship.
Queensland’s Kade McBride and NSW’s Adrian Lee finished in a tie for third place at 4-over par, five strokes behind Higginbottom.
Oliver Goss (WA) and Jordan McCarthy (QLD) finished tied for fifth at 5-over par. McCarthy was paired with Higginbottom and Smith.
Victorian Ben Eccles carded a final round 1-over par 73 to share seventh place with Ricky Kato (NSW) at 6-over.
The Australian Boys’ Interstate Teams Matches begin on Monday at Cabramatta Golf Club.
Australian Girls’ Amateur Championship – Final Round

Cathleen Santoso became the first girl from New South Wales since Sarah Kemp in 2003 to win the Australian Girls’ Amateur Championship at Newcastle Golf Club.
Santoso closed with a final round 2-over par 75 to win by one stroke from Queensland’s Jaimee Dougan who shot a final round 2-under par 71.
“I’m so excited to win this,” Santoso said.

“I didn’t know what the score was coming down the 18th so it was a great thrill to find out I’d won,” she added, after sinking a 50 foot putt for birdie on the 18th.
Santoso was a quarter finalist at the Srixon Australian Amateur in March and said she is pleased with how her game is progressing.
“I feel like my ball-striking is more consistent now and my putting has improved which has made a difference,” Santoso said.
Western Australia’s Hayley Bettencourt finished in a share of second with Dougan at 2-over par.
Defending champion Annie Choi (KOR) finished with a final round 78 to share fourth place with Emily McLennan (QLD) and National Junior Squad member Minjee Lee (WA) at 4-over par.
Queensland’s Zoe Field finished in outright seventh at 6-over par.
The Australian Girls’ Interstate Teams Matches begin on Monday at Pacific Dunes Golf Club near Newcastle.
