Smith two back in Texas

Australia's Cameron Smith remains in the hunt for his first big professional title after the third round of the Valero Texas Open in San Antonio today.

Queenslander Smith, 23, carded a third-round 73 with three bogeys and two birdies to drop slightly down the leaderboard, sitting tied-fourth behind Kevin Chappell, two shots back.

Chappell is at eight-under after a 71; Smith is at six-under.

The former Australian amateur champion's previous-best result on tour is his tied-fifth in the 2015 US Open.

Two other Aussies, Aaron Baddeley and Matt Jones, also are in the top 20 in Texas.
