Overnight leader Helen Leech blitzed the field again today with another sub-80 round to claim the title of 2014 Victorian Women’s Sandgreens Champion at Inverleigh Golf Club. The Neangar Park member was the only player to break 80 for both days, whose fantastic 36-hole total of 157 (78, 79) put her 8 shots ahead of runner-up Mary-Anne Davis (Murray Downs) on 165. Leech’s solid play also secured her the best 36-hole nett prize in A-Grade with a total of 139 off a handicap of 9. The best 36-hole gross prize in B-grade was claimed by Carolyn Sinclair (RAAF Williams) with rounds of 93 and 89 for a total of 182.
Cleaning up the best nett title of the championship was local Bannockburn member Glennis Jolly with a blistering nett 127 (67, 60), bettering her 30 handicap by 17 shots over the two days. Jolly also cleaned up the best 36-hole gross prize for C-Grade with a score of 187. The best 36-hole nett prize in B-grade was taken by Kerren Collins (Grampians, hcap 24), carding a solid 64 today and 72 yesterday for a nett total of 136.
