So Yeon is a happy little Vegemite

Can she regain the world No.1 mantle?

Will she find inspiration in her home away from home?

Is there pressure in being the highest-ranked player in this week’s ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open?

Who cares? Take So Yeon Ryu to the Vegemite!!!!

The world No.3 Korean fronted her pre-tournament press conference today, flanked by a gift of two tubes of the famous Aussie “delicacy” and a piece of toast loaded with the spread.

The questions of the golfing media mattered to the delightful 27-year-old; just not as much as chowing down on the goodies in front of her.

“I’m good friends with (Queenslander) Sarah Jane Smith and she always carries the Vegemite, then every morning when I meet her in the dining (area), I ask, `Can I borrow your Vegemite?’,” Ryu said.

“She said, `If you eat Vegemite, you’re definitely an honorary Aussie’.  So, she called me an honorary Aussie … I love it.”

Even with the toast on the wrong side of lukewarm after her media commitments, Ryu was only too happy to keep nibbling away and pose for a picture or two with her favourite Aussie dietary addition.

So how? Why?

“Well, my coach is Australian who was here for the last two days and then my osteopath is Australian and then my previous caddie was Australian,” she said.

“This week I’m going to be with Michael Patterson, who carried for Karrie Webb for so long. I think it kind of has Australian sense, so yeah, I have a lot of team who’s Australian, so I’ve got a lot of influence by Aussies.

“Maybe that’s why I love Vegemite so much.”

That’s good. As long as we’ve got the important stuff sorted out.

Now, about that golf …
