Queenslanders Robert Rule and Pat Thomas joined the signature orange jacket club today at Boulia Golf Club.
Both players marked their fourth event of the Outback Queensland Masters series with success by a shot on the Boulia scrapes.
Thomas made the journey inland to Charleville from the coastal club of Sandgate in north Brisbane and has enjoyed events at Longreach and Winton on her way to Boulia.
She was highly complementary of the town and has a souvenir to take home alongside her new jacket.
“Thanks for the sponsor and local community of Boulia. We have had a lot of fun on the way. I’ve got a Boulia Golf Club shirt now and I will be able to tell everyone about Boulia!”
Following closely behind Thomas in second place was Robyne-Lee Clayton. No stranger to the podium and adding to her collection of prizes, Clayton was runner-up at Roma and champion at Charleville.
Rule like Thomas was playing his fourth event of the Outback Queensland Masters, previously playing Roma, Longreach and Winton. Having never played on sand scrapes before he was pleasantly surprised with the way he played over the last couple of days.
“Boulia golf club is excellent and the entertainment we had last night was great. Thanks to my playing partners because without them I wouldn’t have had a game. All in all, thanks to everybody!”
Rule carded the best 9-hole score of the tournament with a strong 24 stableford points today, one shot ahead of Lance Walsh from Yarrawonga-Mulwala who has signed up to play in all six events of the Outback Queensland Masters.

Last night’s entertainment saw a sell out for the first time for this year’s Outback Queensland Masters. Loyal supporters of headline act Busby Marou followed the Aria award winning Aussie duo to Boulia for their mesmerizing acoustics. Lovable larrackin Ray Essery had the audience in stitches with his bush poetry and tales from his days of dairy farming.
It has been a big week in Boulia, following the Camel Races over the weekend which attracts thousands of visitors to the town annually.
Cr Rick Britton, Mayor of Boulia Shire, acknowledged the efforts of the small community who have been working around the clock to provide hospitality for all the visitors.
“The privilege & sometimes one of the downs of a small community is that if there is a committee made, it is often made up of the same people. After the past week, the whole township may need a week off to recover.”
The roadshow now heads north to Mount Isa where players will have the opportunity to have a crack at the much anticipated million dollar hole-in-one!
