Daniel Gill and June Song top the leaderboards at the conclusion of round 2 at the Victorian Boys and Girls Championships. Another day of terrific weather on the Mornington Peninsula greeted the players taking to the Open Course at Moonah Links..
Daniel Gill (Commonwealth) returned the score of the day, a sensational 3-under par moved his 36-hole total to 4-under, taking the top place from the trio of leaders after yesterday’s round. Two thirds of this trio, Hayden Hopewell (Royal Fremantle, WA) and 2017 Victorian Boys Champion Kazumo Kobori (Pegasus, NZ), remain within one shot of the lead after a pair of 1-under 71’s today. Climbing up the leaderboard was Jasper Stubbs (Huntingdale) who has a 36-hole tally of 1-under par.
In the girls field, the overnight leader June Song (Avondale, NSW) held strong with a solid round of 73 to sit at a tournament total of -1. June had a consistent round, starting with eight pars and one bogey in her first nine holes, then seven pars, one birdie and bogey in the closing nine. June still finds herself atop of the leaderboard but extended her lead to 3 strokes. Hot on her heels is fellow New South Welshman Sophie Yip (Concord) who posted the round of the day for the girls. A 2-under par 70 from Yip will see her join Kay Bannan (Southern) who sits a further shot back in the lead group in round 3.
