South Australian state teams announced

The South Australian Men’s and Women’s State Teams to contest the 2017 Australian Interstate Teams Matches in Western Australia have been selected.

The Australian Interstate Teams Matches are Australia's premier Amateur Team Golf Championships, with the Men’s Series being played at The Melville Glades Golf Club 9-12 April and Women’s Series played at Royal Fremantle Golf Club 9-11 April 2017.

Eight male and six female players have been selected, with 22-year-old Matthew Lisk from The Grange Golf Club announced men’s team captain for a second year and 17-year-old Ella Adams women’s state captain for the first time.

Joining Lisk as returning players to the men’s team include, last year’s Junior Captain, Lachlan Barker from Glenelg Golf Club and Will Somerfield from Kooyonga who will make his third appearance.

The five players to make their debuts are; Sam Burton (Tea Tree Gully), Billy Cawthorne (Royal Adelaide), Andrew Nakone Junior (The Grange), Joe Hodgson (Kooyonga) and junior state captain Jackson Kalz (Glenelg).

The Men’s team will be coached by Jamie Clutterham, PGA Professional at the North Adelaide golf course and will be managed by David Brand.

South Australia finished fifth in 2016 and last won the series in 1983 with the team of Neil Crafter (C), Kevin Bulbeck, David Cherry, Bill Guy, Dean Harris, Michael Haslett, Phil Roberts, Dean Wiles,

Women’s Captain Ella Adams will make her fifth consecutive appearance for South Australia, a remarkable achievement for a 17-year-old.

16-year-old Jin-Young Yun from The Grange Golf Club and 15-year-old Charley Jacobs from Glenelg Golf Club will return to the team with both players also representing SA in the Junior Series in April.

Experienced Glenelg duo, Sarah Crocker and Elysia Yap have been selected once again with Yap set to make her fifth appearance for SA.

Caitlin Roberts who captained the side in 2013 and 2014, is a welcome return after an absence last year. It will be Roberts sixth series.

Coaching the side is Adrian Wickstein, who is the teaching professional at the Glenelg Golf Club. Wickstein was Men’s State Captain in 2008.  Managing the side will be former South Australian ALPG player, Tamie Durdin.

South Australia finished fifth in 2016 and last won the Australian Women’s Interstate Teams Matches in 2006 with the team of Louise Glennon, Ebony Heard, Samantha Holt, Sarah King, Susie Mathews and Stephanie Na.
