A modest field of 57 competitors will tee off this weekend in the Southern Open at Tasmania Golf Club.
Front runner for the title will be defending champion and plus three handicapper Andrew Phillips.
Phillips is one of a handful of plus handicappers who have entered for this year’s championship on the course at Barilla Bay.
The 37-year-old current State team member won last year at Kingston Beach and will be out to claim his second Southern Open victory.
Of the remaining field, challenges for the title are expected to come from Kingston Beach Golf Club’s Nathan Gatehouse and Launceston’s Greg Longmore.
Northerners Mitch Van Noord of Launceston and Jack Tregaskisjago of Prospect Vale will also be keen to perform well.
