With drought ravaging regional New South Wales, the members of Mungindi Golf Club have received some welcome news in the form of a grant from the NSW Golf Foundation to assist their efforts to improve the entrance to the course.
Like many country communities, the club is very much a part of the fabric and a place for many of the locals to get away from the day-to-day realities they face. The funds will go towards a watering system to ensure the club’s entrance is and first tee are well maintained and a welcome beacon for visitors.

Matthew Luhrs, one of the driving forces behind the initiative, said the improvements would go a long way towards not only ensuring the entrance looks great but is also a welcoming oasis for the local golfing community, their friends and families.
“One of the challenges of the drought is the mental health effect on all the members of our community.
“I learnt in the drought through the early 2000’s that one of the best ways to combat the ongoing stress of the situation is to have a spot when you get home which is nice and green.
“It only has to be a spot where the grey water keeps a small area growing so you can escape the challenges that drought brings and enjoy some downtime.

“It sounds small, but it does work, and that is why I am so excited about the sprinkler project.
We will have another spot where they can ‘escape’ the reality of the challenges we are all facing,” Mr Luhrs said.
