A host of Australia s most iconic sporting faces are sharpening their golf game for the inaugural Champions Trophy tournament on Tuesday 17 November at New South Wales Golf Club at La Perouse in Sydney. With golf the word on everyone s lips, stars from other sports will fight it out for the inaugural Champions Trophy designed to discover which sport has the best golfers, given golf is almost every athlete s second sport. The tennis representatives are a who s who of Davis Cup and US Open fame including dual US Open champion Pat Rafter, Wayne Arthurs and Peter Tramacchi. AFL will field a strong team with St Kilda footballers Brendan Goddard and Sam Fisher joined by former champions Corey McKernan, Ben Dixon and Nathan Thompson. With the summer cricket season underway, Australian star bowler Stuart Clark will be joined by cricket heroes Dean Jones and Greg Blewett in pursuit of the trophy. Rugby union will represented by Australia s all time second-highest scorer in international rugby, Matt Burke and former stars Brett Papworth and Julian Huxley. Rugby league will also field a strong team with former Newcastle Knights and Melbourne Storm star Clint Newton returning from Hull Kingston Rovers in the European Super League. Bulldogs halfback Brett Kimmorley and Newton will be joined by Channel 9 Footy Show Host Paul Fatty Vautin to bring home the trophy for the NRL team. The Olympics and Racing team will be represented by triple Olympic gold medallist James Tomkins and jockey Johnny Marshall who rode Rogan Josh to victory in the 1999 Melbourne Cup.
