Australian Junior Athletes (U/21) are invited to apply for The Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship & Mentoring Program for 2014. One of Australia s most prestigious organisations, The Sport Australia Hall of Fame (SAHOF) represents the pinnacle of sporting achievement in Australia, acknowledging the nation s greatest sporting achievers on and off the field. SAHOF s vision is to preserve and celebrate the history of Australian sport and to excite the next generation of Australians to achieve their potential in both sport and in life. The SAHOF Scholarship and Mentoring Program is one such opportunity to continue achieving this vision. The Scholarship will provide encouragement and funding for a 12 month period along with an international airfare provided by SAHOF s Major Sponsor Etihad Airways. More importantly, Scholarship holders will enjoy unrivalled access to, and personal mentoring from a SAHOF Member surely no greater way to inspire young sports people. Five Scholarships will be awarded to Australian athletes who are aged under 21 as at Dec 31, 2013. Each Scholarship applies from January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2014 and will consist of; Personal Mentoring by a SAHOF Member $5,000 sporting expenses grant On-stage presentation of Scholarship & Certificate at The SAHOF Induction & Awards Gala Dinner 10th October, Crown Palladium, Melbourne (travel costs met by SAHOF) One return flight within the Etihad Airways network Assigned SAHOF Scholarship Holder logo for agreed use Since the introduction of the Program in 2006, 50 young Australian athletes have benefited from the opportunity of a lifetime to draw on the experience and wisdom of SAHOF Members in addition to the valuable cash grant and international airfare. Scholarship holders have been privileged to be mentored by such Australian sporting legends as; Catherine Freeman, Susie O Neill, Rechelle Hawkes, David Parkin, Robert de Castella, Bruce McAvaney, Nick Farr-Jones, Andrew Gaze, Liz Ellis, Mick Doohan and SAHOF Chairman, John Bertrand. The success of this Program is outstanding with 17 past/present Scholarship recipients representing Australia at the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games.
