As part of the ASC&aposs &aposSport Connect&apos program, Golf Australia recently held a forum for Disability Sporting Groups. Key stakeholders met in Melbourne to find ways to work together to create pathways for golfers with a disability. Chaired by Kevin Tangey of Golf Australia, the forum explored the development of the relationship between Golf Australia and the various groups so everyone can interact and work together in more effective ways to make the game accessible to all. Attendees included: Australian Sports Commission Golf Australia Blind Golfers Association of Australia Deaf Sports Australia & Australian Deaf Golf Association Special Olympics Australia Ausrapid Australian Athletes with a Disability Queensland Amputee Golf Association Limbs 4 Life Kevin Tangey said, “The Forum was a great opportunity to get together and discuss various issues surrounding disability and golf. It&aposs vital that we make the game as available to as many people as we can and these sort of initiatives help us greatly in achieving our goal.” It was agreed at the forum that all stakeholders would seek to introduce a more integrated approach and utilise the resources of all concerned in a more effective manner. “There was a great deal of excitement and enthusiasm,” Tangey enthused. “We have endorsed a concept of working a lot closer together and in a more structured manner to continue making the game of golf accessible to all.” Click here to read more on Golf Australia&aposs participation strategies
