Spring tournament off to wet start

This year’s Victorian Women’s Spring Country tournament began this afternoon in wet and drizzly conditions at Mansfield GC.

91 Women from throughout Victoria took to the par 71 layout having to contend with unpleasant conditions, as intermittent showers dampened the course throughout the afternoon.

At the conclusion of round one, two Shepparton members Ann Pegg and Suzy Phillips-Limon share the C-Grade nett lead after rounds of 78. Pegg also leads the C0Grade gross championship after a round of 102 with Mansfield local Shirley Nolan in second place just one shot off the pace.

The B-Grade nett event is led by Woodends Loretta Matthews after a round of 77. Beechworths Coral Ward sits second overnight after a round of 78. Rosebud golfer Nola Geary is setting the pace in the B-Grade gross after a round of 96.

The A-grade nett event is led by Victoria’s Stephanie Wearne who recorded the low nett round of the day, a fine 74 to lead by 5. Wearne also leads the gross event after round one having been the only player ‘to break 80’ with a round of 79. Defending champion Jess Pickwick (Kilmore) sits in second place after a round of 80.

Final round action gets underway on Tuesday morning via an 8:00am shotgun start.
