Junior Pennant Things couldn’t have been closer in the Junior Pennant as the Final went down to the final hole for the final pairing. A narrowly missed putt after a terrific comeback from Avondale s Harrison Endycott could have taken the match to the 19th hole, but the fairy tale finish was not to be. Earlier in the contest the matches had been shared with the fifth pairing going the way of Avondale as Michael Westerway defeated Daniel Kolar 1up. St Michaels took out the fourth and third pairings as Travis Smyth (4/3) and Shaun Cameron (1up) beat Linus Yip and Nick Brown respectively. Avondale s captain, Kristian Hooker, overcame Jake Baker 2/1 in a high quality match leaving it to the final pairing to decide the Pennant winner. St Michael s Luke Morrison appeared to be coasting to an easy victory as he stood on the 14th tee 4up, little did he know that Endycott had other ideas. 15-year-old Endycott suddenly found the form that saw him qualify for the NSW Open in November to win three of next four holes and head to the 18th just one behind. Endycott playing first found the right edge of the par three green leaving 60 foot to the hole. Morrison played his shot on a similar line just carrying the green to leave a tough chip and the door slightly ajar for Endycott to force the decider to the 19th. Morrison s chip sailed past the hole leaving Endycott two putts to claim the hole. He played his first putt up the tiered green to leave himself a tricky downhill five footer for the hole. As the good crowd of spectators anxiously watched on Endycott s putt was steered just wide leaving St Michael s to claim the match and the Final. St Michael s certainly proved themselves to be worthy champions having completed the season undefeated, whilst Avondale will be a force to be reckoned with in the future with all of the team eligible to compete in next year s competition. Eric Apperly Shield With the knowledge that their Junior Pennant side had claimed victory earlier in the day, St Michael s Eric Apperly side set out to complete the double. Castle Hill had shown throughout the season that they were a team that could grind out a win in any circumstance and early indications were heading that way again. Castle Hill took a 2-0 lead as their fifth an fourth players Kurt Eckmann (1up) and Patrick Idquival (2/1) had narrow victories over Chase Baso and Julian Lee respectively. The tight results continued as the third pairing went to St Michael s with Michael Williams accounting for Trent Smith 1up. The number one pairing was decided on the 16th as Zac Mullins (St Michael s) held off Stephen Bevan 3/2 to have the contest at 2-2 with the second pairing heading to the 18th tee. The match had been an enthralling contest with St Michael s Ron Su a-Walker 1up through nine holes over Castle Hill s Lachlan Crowl. The back nine saw the match see-saw with just two holes halved between the 10th and the 17th, but it was Su a-Walker with the advantage heading to the last hole. Su a-Walker held his nerve to make par and with Crowl unable to chip in for his birdie the St Michael s squad was left to celebrate their victory. Both Finals featured some outstanding golf and sportsmanship with all matches played in the true spirit of the game.
