Stacey Keating blog: Back home and winning

By Stacey Keating Since I got back from USA I haven&apost had a lot on apart from practice. When I first got back I played in the Victorian Amateur at Royal Melbourne Golf Club. This ended up being quite a good week for me! I struggled through the stroke rounds to qualify mid way – in 8th place. I got through some great matches to find myself in the final against Joanna Charlton. What a great match it was! I finally got over the line on the 33rd hole in a 36 hole final. After that I had a solid month of practice, working with my coach Steven a lot and preparing for the Australian Interstate Series (Gladys Hay) in Queensland. What a week it was! Its always so much fun being involved in a teams event, just bacause it very rare. We played solidly all week, getting to Thursday evening sitting in 3rd place, after beating TAS, NSW, WA and losing to QLD. To give you the short story- we needed a miracle. Needing us to beat SA 7-1, and WA and QLD to tie (4 all). And it happened! It was so exciting as we won all our singles matches in the afternoon to tie for the lead with QLD. Victoria hasn&apost won this event for 15 years! Everyone is over the moon to bring &aposGladys&apos home! No I have another few solid weeks&apos practice and getting ready for the World Amateur Team Championships in Argentina. This is something I&aposve been looking forward to for two years. If you wish to follow the Australian women&aposs team (Alison Whitaker, Julia Boland and myself) you can find us at World Amateur Team Championships website or here at golfaustralia.org.au After World Amateur I will go to USA to compete in Duramed Futures Tour School with the aim of gaining full professional playing rights for the 2011 season. Happy golfing!
