Stacey Keating blog: the South African washout

Well I haven t blogged for a while…and I guess there is a reason for that, I haven t been up to a whole lot! I did miss one event due to a little niggle in my wrist which I didn t want to risk and now its 100%, so I feel it was a good decision. So I did have some time off from golf, which I just tried to again do things I don t get to do while I&aposm away, like going to the footy to watch the mighty Cats, (got to see a couple of great games) ride my bike, and see my family and friends. Then I just got back into my practice and ready to go away again. The time off went so quickly. My first event back was the South African Open. I always look forward to going here, but this time was different for a few reasons! It was Masters week, and as that turned out was probably one of the most exciting things to happen in Australia golf.. EVER! The first Aussie to win the Green Jacket WOW and what a finish it was.. I&aposm I was sure I was the most awake I have been at 2am! Huge congrats to Adam Scott on this feat, and let hope it now opens the door for many more majors for him, and many more Greens Jackets into our country!! Now back to our event The lead up to the event was great, sunny days, course right on the ocean, magnificent views and a great course! But then as soon as the competition started, it didn t stop raining for 4 days. We did get the first round underway and completed, in which I didn t play anything exciting. I did feel I was quite rusty with having not played a comp for 5 weeks, but I signed for +2, and the best in was -3. So I felt a decent Round 2 and I could be right up there for the weekend. Not to be! There was so much rain in the next 48 hours we couldn’t get near the course again. The tournament was declared an 18 hole event and that was that! A long way to travel for one round, but was lucky I planned to stay a couple of days with fellow player Ashleigh Simon for some non golf activities! We went to a Lion Park in Johannesburg. WOW. We loved it.. and got to pat the lion cubs. So cute! So now I am back in Australia preparing to go away again, but this time to Japan. My first time here, I will be playing the Salonpas Cup, a Japanese tour event, which I m so very excited about! From here I will be going to USA to attempt to qualify for the US OPEN, and then back to Europe to begin my season! A lot of travel time ahead, but looking forward to it all! I hope to keep you posted when I can. Happy golfing!
