States take ownership of 9 hole golf to drive participation

Golf Australia and the Member States have rallied around the concept of 9 hole golf, agreeing to officially endorse the initiative and actively work to increase participation at all clubs. Launched by Golf Australia in late 2007, 9 hole, Your Time – Your Choice, recognises the demands of our time-poor society and presents another playing choice for the busy golfer. Clubs are encouraged to provide 9 hole competitions that are handicapped via Golf Australia&aposs officially endorsed handicapping system. Many clubs have already answered the call with over 100 registrations received at the official national 9 hole website; www.9hole.com.au. The latest development has seen each State Golf Association extend itself to formally embrace the concept and commit their time, services and resources to help drive participation. Nick Green, Manager of Game and Industry at Golf Australia said, “This is a huge forward step for 9 hole golf. It is great to have the Member States on board driving the benefits of 9 hole golf with their Member Clubs. “Each Member State will promote 9 hole through their various communication channels as well as being there to offer technical advice and assistance to clubs that are interested in running official events that are less than 18 holes. We are delighted to have them as partners.” Golf Australia will also work with Member States to create and implement State and National 9 hole tournaments.
