Stef solid in hunt for Girls Amateur

Stefanie Hall has backed up her blistering 6-under par start on the opening day with a solid 3-under par 71 to be tied 4th at the half way mark of the Australian Girl’s Amateur Championship.

Having secured her best competitive round at the Devonport Golf Club yesterday, today was always going to be a mental challenge for the 16-year old.

“Yeah my six-under didn't really hit me until this morning and I woke up with butterflies, and I’ve never had that before,” she said.

“So today on the first hole I was just telling myself to focus on my shot. To back it up with three under today was really good, I am just so happy that I was able to do that.”

Hall carded four birdies today and despite bogeying the fifth, a 146m par 3, she was happy to leave the green with a four.

“I was in the bunker and I didn't quite get it, so I just said to myself just roll the ball to the hole and walk off with a bogey. It was a good four.”

Hall’s playing partner, Golf Australia squad member, Becky Kay, had another 6-under par round to lead the tournament at 12-under par, a shot ahead of New Zealand’s Momoka Kobori and Queensland’s Karis Davidson.

Hall is next best at 9-under par alongside Queensland’s Darcy Habgood and WA’s Kathryn Norris.

Defending champion Celina Yuan and Hannah Park both fired 4-under par rounds of 70 to be on 5-under par after 36 holes and tied eighth.

Park said she felt more comfortable out on the course today.

“I worked on my swing with Khan (Pullen) yesterday and it made me feel a lot more confident today,” the 15-year-old said.

“Yesterday I got to three under and then bogeyed a few, but today I was able to play better.”

Grace Kim is on 3 under and tied 15th, while Doey Choi is on even par, Belinda Ji on one over 149 and Amy Chu on two over 150.

The cut was made at +13 today with 36 holes to be played to determine the winner tomorrow.

For the likeable Park, her game plan for tomorrow is simple.

“Keep playing hard and always smile.”
