Henrik Stenson boosted his chances of winning the Race to Dubai with a second-round 64 at the DP World Tour Championship in Jumeirah. The Swede, who leads the race standings, moved to 12 under to top the leaderboard at the halfway mark, a shot clear of Spain&aposs Alejandro Canizares and four ahead of Australian Marcus Fraser. The 37-year-old recorded four birdies on both the front and back nine while also avoiding any bogeys, with the opportunity to clinch Europe&aposs number one spot now firmly in his own hands. Victory on Sunday will hand Stenson the title although he will need to be on guard against Justin Rose and Graeme McDowell who can still overhaul him. England&aposs Rose is five shots off the lead while Northern Irishman McDowell is three further back, although Stenson remains focused on the job at hand. “I keep track of what&aposs happening with the other players, I&aposm too curious not to,” he told the European Tour website. “I saw both Justin and Ian are seven under so they are chasing me as hard as they can. “They are not going to back down so I better keep my foot and my head down, play another two good rounds and see where that takes me. I am in a great position to have a shot at winning and hopefully I will be there on Sunday afternoon.” Stenson remains on course to become the first man to win both the Race to Dubai and the FedEx Cup in the same season, while defending champion Rory McIlroy cut four shots off his first-round score to finish in 67 on Friday – leaving him six shots off the lead.
