Stephens fires in windy PGA

Adam Stephens finds himself the best placed NSW Professional in a tie for 5th position after carding a 1-under par 71 in the first round of the Australian PGA Championship at the RACV Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast.

South African Zander Lombard leads the event after a very impressive 5-under par 67, two shots in front of Englishman Mark Foster.

A shot behind Stephens is the evergreen Matt Millar, fresh from picking up his Australasian PGA Tour Player of the Year award on Tuesday night.

Millar described the conditions as pretty tough.

“It was made very difficult by the wind and of course you know our first hole or so was pouring rain and driving wind so it wasn’t much fun either.”

Jordan Zunic, currently leading the Australasian Order of Merit, sits another shot further back in a tie for 15th after a 1-over par 73. Neven Basic is tied 22nd at 2-over par while Dimi Papadatos and Aron Price are tied 35th at 3 over par.

Round two gets underway tomorrow at 6.00am Queensland time.
