Stieger through to British Amateur Quarter Finals

Click here for Full Scores New South Welshman Matt Stieger is through to the final 8 at the British Amateur Championship at Royal Troon in Ayrshire, Scotland. Stieger, the 2011 Australian Amateur Champion, defeated compatriot Daniel Nisbet (QLD) 3&2 in the fourth round to progress to the quarter finals. Nisbet had earlier beaten England s Craig Hinton 3&1 to move into the fourth round while Stieger defeated Spaniard Emilio Cuartero 4&2. Fellow New South Welshman Jordan Zunic lost 3&2 in the third round to Portugal s Pedro Figueiredo. Stieger will play Scotland s Paul Ferrier this evening (AEST) in the quarter final. Australia s Bryden Macpherson won the title in 2011, becoming the first Australian to win the championship since Doug Bachli in 1954. The British Amateur Champion earns a place in The Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes in July and an invitation to the 2013 Masters Tournament at Augusta National.
