Course Superintendent David Applett is busy working on getting the finer details of the Greg Norman designed Stonecutters Ridge Golf Course in place.

Mr Applett loves his workplace. Showing it off as the NSW Open Golf Championship venue fills him with pride.

“It’s worthy of Greg Norman’s name and worthy of the NSW Open Golf Championship,”he says. “The course will look fantastic…it’s going to be at its best.”

Eleven staff have been preparing the course since the first week of September specifically for the NSW Open. The mild Spring weather has helped the course begin to shine.

“The course is coming on very well, we've had a good season,”says Mr Applett. “We had a nice winter, with a little bit of rain, and it’s come out good in the spring.”

The greens are now being given some final touches. Expect them to be perfect to putt on.

“Golf NSW want the green speed to run at about 10.5 (on the Stimp Meter) so we’ll keep them around that,”says Mr Applett. “We’ll get them nice and smooth for putting, we’ll do our best.”

The Spectacular bunkering around the course is part of the wonderful course design. Ensuring they look the best is part of his role too. Mr Applett has a few words of caution for any of the players in the tournament that end up in one.

“The bunkering here is very tough mate, very steep, and it can be a big job to get out of some of them.” Mr Applett says.

Plent of golf fans find it hard to believe that Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club is only three years old.

“It will be in tip-top condition for the NSW Open,”says Club CEO Craig Scott.

“It’s greening up well and the grass is thickening up quite nicely. It will be a real test for the field this year.”

“Weather permitting we’re hoping it will be in great condition for the open, and We’ll have a great championship.” He said.

The 2015 New South Wales Open Championship will be played at Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club from November 12 to 15, 2015. The Championship forms part of the 2015 Australasian PGA Tour schedule. ENTRY IS FREE. For more information visit:  www.nswopen.com
