Strong start for Leish

Marc Leishman continued his fine 2017 season with an opening 66 that puts him in contention at the Quicken Loans National tournament on the PGA Tour at TPC Potomac.

Leishman had three consecutive birdies on the back nine and four for the day to card four-under in the opening round to finish a shot from the lead held by David Lingmerth of Sweden, tied-second. The highlight of his day was a chip-in for birdie from 20 metres short of the green at the par-four 15th hole.

The Victorian recently won the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Florida and is on track for his best year in America, rising to 35th in the world rankings.

Another Victorian, Geoff Ogilvy, is tied-seventh after an opening 67 that included six birdies and three bogeys, while rookie professional Curtis Luck also had a good day, carding a 68 to be tied-15th.
