Stuart Appleby Rookie Series at Oakleigh

Showery and windy weather made the going tough at Oakleigh Golf Club this afternoon for the Stuart Appleby Rookie Series event. However, the weather couldn’t deter the players as the course boasted a bumper field of 44 competitors, many of whom were competing in their first Rookie Series event.

Adam Mao was too strong in the under 9 boys category with a fine round of 38 for top honours. After winning at Eastern GC a few weeks back, Sam Fedmowski carded the best nett score in the under 9’s, compiling a round of 23 from his 18 handicap. Meanwhile a round of 46 saw Sydney Bayearle also join the winners on the podium.

The battle in the under 12 boys section continued today with Harrison Gomez blitzing the field with 31 shots – the lowest gross score for the day and only two over par! 11-year-old Cooper Ford walked home with the nett prize after a stellar round of 22. Louise Baliton warded off the stiff competition in the under 12 girls firing a round of 36 for the gross title while Grace Mac was victorious with a score of 25 in the nett component.

It was a solid permeance from Katya Adkin in the under 16 girls section after carding a round of 39 this afternoon. Sophie Mann etched her name on the handicap prize with an effortless score of 28. George Ruzbacky captured the under 16 boys gross prize with a score of 32 while Roi Lawrence Fortinez was too good in the nett with 30.

The next Rookie series event will be played at Spring Park Golf Club on Sunday June 4.
