The sun was shining brightly at Oakleigh Golf Club this afternoon for the Stuart Appleby Rookie Series event. The day boasted a bumper field of 48 players, many of whom were competing in their first Rookie Series event.
The brother and sister duo of Lachlan and Taylah Robinson took home the boys and girls under 16 titles. Lachlan narrowly edged out Matty Ahmetoglu by a mere shot for top spot and similarly Taylah captured victory by just one stroke over Sayumi De Costa.
Roi Lawrence Fortinez was too good in the under 16 handicap section after a fine score of 24. Meanwhile a round of 24 nett saw Alexandra Kerr also join the winners on the podium in the under 16 girls.
The battle in the under 11 boys section continued today with Harrison Gomez notching out Ben Powell on a count back after the pair was tied on 32 – the lowest gross score for the day! Seven year old Phoenix Diaz walked home with the nett prize after a stellar round of 21 nett.
It was back to back wins for Louise Baliton in the under 11 girls section after firing a great round of 37 this afternoon. Gracie Larsen also notched up another victory by claiming the nett prize with a score of 22.
The next Rookie series event will be played at Port Fairy Golf Club on Sunday May 29.
