Stubbs and De Costa lead at Southern

A bumper field assembled in chase for the 2018 Southern Junior Classic titles in absolute perfect golfing weather as clear skies and calm winds greeted the players.  The mercury reached into the mid-thirties by the late morning and made the conditions perfect for low scoring.

Huntingdale’s Jasper Stubbs made the most of the calm conditions to be placed at the top of the leaderboard after signing for a scintillating round of 66. Starting on the 10th, the 16-year old had his first birdie on the 11th and then another three before making the turn. Two birdies at holes 3 and 4 saw him sign for a bogey free round to be poised four clear of Phoenix Campbell.

Jordan Smith and Thomas Hat sit six shots behind the overnight frontrunner with solid rounds of level par. Defending champion Harry Goakes is a further shot behind after signing for 73.

Sayumi De Costa will head into tomorrows final round with a one-shot advantage in the girls title. The Victoria member managed her way around the par 74 layout to return an impressive two over 76. Kai Shipp and Keeley Marx will be looking to apply the pressure on the smooth swinging left-hander when they start tomorrow morning just a single shot back. Well within the hunt is the 2017 Yarrawonga Junior Open Champion Piper Stubbs on 79.

A cluster of players including Jacob Ngo, Sayumi De Costa, Jasper Stubbs and Vincent Nguyen share the lead in the overall nett section after the four fired rounds 5 shots better than their handicap.
