Sun shines for champions at Hepburn Springs

The Hepburn Springs Senior Amateur wrapped up today in beautifully sunny conditions for the 57 competitors that participated.

Ian Frost has added the Hepburn Senior Amateur Champion to his elaborate golfing resume with his victory today. The Rich River member carded rounds of 72 and 67 for a total of 139, 3 shots clear of runner-up Sands Torquay member David Mallett. Frost’s round of 67 today included 4 birdies on holes 1, 6, 10 and 12.

A second round count-back was required to determine the men’s nett champion, with John Hoare of Pakenham and Kooringal’s Grant Arnold both tied on nett 132. Hoare’s blistering round of 4 under nett par 62 today trumped Arnold’s solid 65 to win the trophy.

Helen Pascoe of Buninyong is proving to be the player to beat in the women’s scratch section this year, with yet another title today. The scratch marker posted scratch scores of 31 and 30 points for a total of 61 points, 9 better than runner-up Heather Harley of Kooringal.

In the women’s stableford section, it was the battle of the local members, with Jan Thompson narrowly taking the title from fellow Hepburn Springs members Rosemary Hobbs. Thompson posted scores of 33 and 32 for a total of 65 points, 2 better than Mobbs on 63 points who came runner-up on a count-back from Tambo Valley’s Tina Cowie.

A big thank you to Hepburn Springs GC, all the committee members and volunteers for their wonderful hospitality over the past 2 days. The next events coming up on the senior calendar are the trio of Heathcote, Shepparton and Tocumwal the week of 19 June.
