Sunday showdown at WA Amateur

Follow live scoring

Day three of the WA Amateur is in the books and it was busy and jam-packed with action. Conditions were great in the morning with the winds steadily increasing as the day progressed.

The course continues to play well and reward good shot-making. Impressive rounds from Haydn Barron and Connor McKinney proved that plenty of birdies are on offer if you play well.

Women’s Quarter Finals Results

Kathryn Norris def Brooke Price (4&3)

Kathryn Norris (MCC) continued her good form after finishing the stroke play rounds in top position. The scores were tight early in her quarterfinal match against Brooke Price (RPGC) but Norris’ form and class shone through and she ran out a winner.

Shannon Tan def Georgia Shears (3&1)

The diminutive Tan (QLD) was too strong for Wanneroo local Georgia Shears. Despite her slight stature, Tan aggressively attacks the course and hits a long ball. Shears tried to make a late move but a wayward drive on 17 sealed her fate and handed Tan the win.

Abbie Teasdale def Sasha Hofman (5&4)

The 2018 champion was too strong for Hofman (GGC) and romped to a commanding victory. Abbie Teasdale (RFGC) is playing good golf and looks to be a strong chance of defending her title.

Kirsten Rudgeley def Madison Large (4&3)

Kirsten Rudgeley (MLGC) had a good day and ended it with a convincing win over Madison Large (JCC). The Saturday matchup of Rudgeley vs. Teasdale is set to be a hot encounter and one to keep an eye on.

Men’s Round of 16 Results

Haydn Barron def Hayden Hopewell (5&4)

Haydn Barron (WAGC) was in phenomenal form making birdies left, right and centre. Hayden Hopewell (RFGC) played well and was even with the card for most of the round but he just couldn’t match the birdies being made by Barron.

Haydn Barron has been one of the form players in the field so far this week and is a genuine contender for Sunday’s final.

Donovan Lee def Ben Croft (2&1)

Lee (VIC) and Croft (JCC) fought out a tight contest all afternoon with neither player letting the other get too much of an advantage. Lee got out to a 2-shot lead through the middle part of the round and eventually won the match on the 17th hole.

Brendon Allanby def Matthew Bowra (2&1)

Allanby (RFGC) and Bowra (LKCC) had a tight tussle all afternoon with neither wanting to be the first to stumble. Allanby eventually prevailed 2&1 and is in some good form heading into Saturday. Keep an eye on Allanby, he is the silent assassin in the field quietly going about his business.

Connor McKinney def Michael Hanrahan Smith (3&2)

The Scot, Connor Mckinney (JCC) has put together three solid days of golf so far and this continued into Friday afternoon as he enjoyed a 3&2 victory over Michael Hanrahan Smith (CGC).

McKinney started his afternoon round earlier than the rest of the competition and was back in the clubhouse a lot earlier than the competition. This extra rest this afternoon could prove important as players start to tire after three long days of golf.

Azer Pehlic def Paul Patterson (4&3)

Pehlic (MLGC) was too strong for Patterson (CGC) and eased to a 4&3 victory. The dreams of a father/son quarter-final have been dashed with both Paul and Jack Patterson(CGC) getting knocked out on Friday afternoon.

Adam Brady def Jack Patterson (3&2)

Adam Brady (VGCC) played solid golf all afternoon and was able to outlast Jack Patterson (CGC). Brady now faces Pehlic for a spot in the semis on Saturday afternoon.

Josh Greer def Joseph Owen (5&4)

Greer (JCC) may have scraped through in the morning but he turned on the jets in the afternoon and was too strong for Owen (LKCC). Greer will now come up against Connor Fewkes and will need to continue his good form if he is to progress.

Connor Fewkes def Naraajie Ramadhanputra (3&2)

Fewkes (Goldfields) outlasted Ramadhanputra (Indonesia) in their afternoon match. Scores were level as they made the turn but Fewkes soon turned on the afterburners and powered away to a 3&2 victory.

The action at Wanneroo continues tomorrow with the women playing their semi-finals in the morning. The men must face up to another 36 holes of golf with the quarter-finals in the morning and the semis in the afternoon.

GolfWA will again have live scoring on our website for all of the matches over the weekend.
