Surfcoast Senior Amateur kicks off at The Sands Torquay

Round 1 of the 2016 Surfcoast Senior Amateur has kicked off at The Sands Torquay. Previously played as separate 36-hole events at The Sands Torquay and Lonsdale Golf Club, this year has seen the two combine to form a singular event with 18-holes played at each venue.

58 men and 15 women teed off in perfectly sunny conditions this afternoon. Alan Buckley and Robert Wallace have started strong to lead the men’s field tied on a score of 2 over par 74, followed closely by Peter Bence and Tim Kirtley, both a shot back on 75. Buckley is also sitting on top of the nett ladder, with a strong nett score of 67 off a handicap of 7. Graeme Bone also enjoyed a solid day out with a nett 69 to be in second position.

Local Sands Torquay member Wendy Muller recorded the best stableford score in the women’s field with and excellent 37 points, 3 shots ahead of Helen Pascoe on 34 points. In the scratch stableford section, Pascoe is leading on 33 scratch points with Kerrin Biddle sitting 6 points behind and looking to make a move tomorrow.

Round 2 moves to Lonsdale GC tomorrow morning for a shot-gun start at 8:30am.
