Swing Fit the revolution nears

The future of women’s golf – and fitness – is just around the corner.

No fewer than 17 potential Swing Fit instructors, including PGA and ALPG members, converged on Royal Melbourne during last week’s ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open to learn all about the new program – and how it could revolutionise the introduction of women to golf.

The Swing Fit deliverer training session put the potential teachers through their paces, as well as giving them vital background information regarding the research undertaken in developing the program.

Golf Australia’s director of game development Cameron Wade was thrilled with their response.

“The feedback and enthusiasm from the pilot deliverers was more than we could have imagined and we are extremely excited about rolling out the program and engaging more women in the game,” Wade said.

“The 17 deliverers will now head back to their local courses and conduct pilot programs throughout March and into April to enable us to tweak the program as required before launching nationally.”

Swing Fit is Australian golf’s national female participation program to increase engagement in the game.

It is an innovative health, fitness and skill development program, which has socialisation, conditioning and games-based learning at its core.

Participants learn and experience the basic golf swing and putting action, with opportunities to have fun and get their whole body moving through golf specific conditioning and movement activities.

It is for women of all ages and abilities with programs for new and existing golfers, delivered by accredited coaches.

SwingFit programs will begin around the country later in 2015.
