Tasmania victorious in division one state final

Tasmania Golf Club confirmed why it is the powerhouse of state pennant on Sunday taking out division one of the men’s finals.

The 36-hole contest at Kingston Beach Golf Club saw the boys from Barilla Bay defeat Launceston 4½-2½ in a thrilling encounter.

Tasmania started favourites and secured an early victory with Andrew Phillips defeating Joshua Molendyk 8&6.

Launceston fought back with Cameron Bell defeating Stuart Bonnitcha 5&3 and Mitch Van Noord beating Mark Schulze 7&6.

However, celebrations were short lived with Tasmania’s middle to lower order securing three of the remaining four matches.

Paul Read defeated Matthew Marston 5&3, Richard Kube overcame Sean Harris 2&1 and Joshua Spaulding beat Brett Churchill 3&1.

Tasmania’s Nathan Gatehouse and Launceston’s Greg Longmore squared their number one contest to complete the result for Tasmania.

Launceston bounced back in the 18-hole division two final with a 4-3 win over Royal Hobart Golf Club.

Peter Westfield defeated Pete Shaw 2&1, Daniel Murray overcame Adam Neal 2&1, Thomas Rehrmann beat Darren Wheat 3&2 and Dan Hillier defeated Dieter Jones 2&1.

For Royal Hobart, Alex Bigg defeated Tim Long 5&3, Joey Bower beat Alex Masters 3&2 and Mark Guy overcame Zac Bird 2&1.

Wynyard Golf Club won the remaining division three state pennant title with a hard fought 5-2 win over Tasmania.

Best for Wynyard were John Kalbfell, Richard Mulcahy, Jack Lakin, Neal Bishop and Ant Macmichael.

While Marice Docking, Jamie Kay, Harry Bevis and Luke Jackson were the best for the defeated Tasmania team.
