Tasmanian professional golfers faired well at last week s Emirates Australian Open conducted at The Lakes Golf Club in Sydney, New South Wales. In gale force conditions that forced the suspension of play, Mathew Goggin emerged as the best of the Tasmanians finishing in a tie for fourteenth place. Goggin carded rounds of 71, 70, 73 and 76 to tie with Steven Jones, Adam Scott and Queensland amateur Cameron Smith at two-over-par. Launceston s Kalem Richardson finished the event in equal thirty ninth along with Gareth Paddison and Craig Parry on six-over-par. Richardson returned rounds of 78, 70, 74 and an even-par 72 on the final day when the majority of the field were left struggling. Fellow Riverside golfer Clint Rice tied for fifty first position on eight-over-par along with the likes of Nathan Green and Aron Price after rounds of 77, 71, 70 and 78. 53-year-old Peter Senior became the oldest winner of the Stonehaven Cup after claiming the 2012 Emirates Australian Open from his younger counterparts. Senior s experience shone through to see him shoot even par 72 in the final round winning with a four-under 284 tournament total.
