Ben Tatt has won the 2018 Trimax Victorian Men’s Sand Greens Championship at Maldon.

The Belvoir Park member backed up a magnificent 3-under round yesterday with an even par round of 65 today to finish 3-under for the tournament.

The icing on the cake for Tatt came on his very last shot, which saw him chip in for eagle on the par 4 18th.

Tatt’s victory means he has now matched the previous feats of his cousin Travis and uncle Chris who won the championship in 2006 and 2008 respectively.

Midland’s Craig Boucher claimed the runner-up prize with rounds of 68 and 64 for a 132 total.

Matt Anderson (Parklands) took out the a-grade nett and had a stellar tournament with nett rounds of 59 and 62 off a daily handicap of 7.

In b-grade, Ross Murray (Hamilton) came from 4 shots back after round 1 to clinch victory by 1 shot to Bannockburn’s Garry Ward.

Henk Kersten (Bannockburn) claimed the b-grade nett prize after producing 2 consistent rounds of 61 and 62 off a daily handicap of 15.

Parkland’s Wayne Rowland swept the prize table in c-grade, with victories in both the 36-hole gross and nett.

All volunteers at Maldon Golf Club are to be commended on presenting their course in immaculate condition for the duration of the championship.

The club members and volunteers spared no effort in ensuring all players were welcomed with open arms.

The support provided from Trimax and all other sponsors is also greatly appreciated, and to all players for their continued involvement.

The championship moves to Avoca Golf Club next year and will see both the men’s & women’s championships played from Wednesday 4 to Sunday 8 September 2019.
