In the PARADISE MOTORS MAZDA Pennant final played at Kooyonga Golf Club on Monday 23 November, Tea Tree Gully had a comprehensive victory over Blackwood with the end score line being 5.5 to 1.5.
Both teams had qualified for the final from the same division by both winning their semi-final matches played at Royal Adelaide the previous Monday with 4 to 2.5 score lines.
In the Semi’s, TTG defeated The Grange whilst Blackwood overcame The Vines. Both matches were closely fought and it was not until the closing holes that the winners were revealed.
With Tea Tree Gully the defending champions and Blackwood fielding a strong side, a close final was anticipated.
With the final played in breeze conditions at Kooyonga, the TTG team got off to the better start and at the turn were either up in all matches or just in front.
It was early on the back nine where Ken Brown, Marty Miller, Jim Richards, Norm Cordina and John Davey got the jump on their opponents and were never headed from there. Not to say there were not a few anxious moments, as the matches ebbed and flowed but all were winners by the 17th.
Unfortunately Phil Smith was beaten by an old Tea Tree Gully member in Michael Hogben 2/1 in a close finish.
The teams long serving captain Chris Everett had a see-sawing match that saw him all square at the 18th, but with John Davey having just birdied the 16th to win his match and secure the team its victory Chris could relax. The job was done.
This is the TTG Senior Pennants team's ninth, consecutive victory since the inception of senior pennants in Adelaide in 2007. A record the club and players can be rightly very proud of. Whilst seven players were victorious on Monday it was a real team effort.
A big thanks to the part others played in ensuring the team qualified for the final in Brett Lovell, Russell Herrod, Rob Foreman, Neil Williams, Mike Richards, Robert Crawford and Doug Gerow. Well done to all.
For the record the team played nine matches through the season and we were winners in 50 out of 63 individual games. A record to be proud of.
The club and team can be proud of the achievements of the team and now look forward to hopefully adding 2016 to the record and making it ten in a row. That would be something.
