Andrew Tharle (ACT) and Sue Wooster (Vic) have added another Australian Mid Amateur Championship title to their resumes.
Tharle, who won the event in 2012 and Wooster, the 2010, 2012 and 2013 champion were victorious at The Sands Torquay Golf Club on Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula in the playing of the 10th Australian Mid Amateur Championship.
Wooster went into the final round of the women’s event with a seemingly comfortable eight stroke lead, and with a final round score 75, to add to her first and second round scores of 78 and 77, was never headed, taking her fourth national crown. Wooster beat Adele Huggard (Vic) by a comfortable eight strokes. NSW’s Gemma Dooley finished in third place.
Royal Canberra’s Andrew Tharle was one stroke behind going into the final round, but with a one over par final round 73, claimed his second title by one stroke over 2015 champion Mark Boulton (Vic) and Ashley Grosvenor (Qld). Tasmanian State Captain Greg Longmore and four-time The Sands club champion, Craig Corker shared fourth place.
In his first Australian Mid Amateur Championship appearance, Australian tennis legend Todd Woodbridge (Vic) finished in the top 20.
The Victorian team of Dayle Marshall, Craig Cameron and Mark Boulton took out the State Teams Event.
The Australian Mid Amateur Championship is played over 54-holes and is for players aged 30-54 years.
