With Golf Month well underway, we thought it would be timely to highlight just a few of the more than 1,300 activities and offers available across 400+ clubs and facilities around the country.
NSW/ACT
Bayview Golf Club – Twilight Bayview Bazaar – 14 October
Live music, jumping castles, face painting, great food… Oh and golf! It’s all happening at Bayview Golf Club on October 14 at this great family event. Those who don’t want to chase the ball on the course can even try out their swings on the new launch monitor facility.
Magenta Shores Golf and Country Club – Par 3 Competition – 21 October
Open to anyone and with prizes up for grabs, this Par-3 competition is a great way to get back into golf this October. The event will last just 90 minutes and will be a great way to meet people and enjoy the beautiful course.
Rich River Golf Club – Driving Range 2 for 1 – October
Sick of your friend telling you they can hit it further than you? Then it’s time for a bucket or two at your local driving range. Every Monday in October, Rich River is offering ‘2 for 1’ on ball hire after 5pm. The range is a great place to dust off the cobwebs and get back into the swing of things. Pun intended!
Gungahlin Lakes Golf Club – Kids Play Free – 9 October
Summer is just around the corner and that means longer days and more time to get out on the golf course. Adults are encouraged to bring their kids for free to Gungahlin Lakes any time after 4pm.
Northern Territory
Gove Country Golf Club – Swing Fit – 23 October
Swing Fit is the fun, healthy and social way for women to learn and develop golf skills. Starting on 23 October at Gove Golf Club, get involved in this six-week introductory program to golf and make new friends who are also ready to give golf a go. For more information, visit www.swingfit.com.au.
Alyangula Golf Club – Steddy Eddy Biathlon – 8-9 October
Somehow the team at Alyangula has combined fishing and golf to create a two-day event. Yes, you read that correctly. Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the event, participants will fish for their handicap on Saturday which is then used during a four-person Ambrose on Sunday! Open to anyone ready to have fun and meet some new people. A unique experience is a certainty.
Queensland
Emerald Lakes Golf Coaching Centre – Coffee Club – October
You had us at coffee! Submit your cake and coffee order before enjoying a friendly and social coaching clinic at Emerald Lakes. Once you’re done, you’ll head back into the clubhouse with a piece of cake of your choice, where that sweet, sweet coffee will be waiting for you. Clinics start at 9am. Did we mention coffee?
Granite Mountain Disc Golf Course – Havoc on the Hill – 22 October
Disc golf is played much like traditional golf. Instead of a ball and clubs, however, players use a flying disc or Frisbee®. Situated 900m above sea level in a beautiful area of Queensland, this course and event is not to disappoint. Whether you’re a regular disc golfer or wanting to see what it’s all about, the Granite Mountain team will be there to guide you through it. Search your local area to see if a disc golf activity is on offer near you.
Oxley Golf Club – Junior Golf Expo – 23 October
Free junior clinic for all ages covering many aspects of the game with PGA professionals there to give expert advice. Did we forget to mention that there will be a jumping castle, a sausage sizzle (yum!) and plenty of prizes on offer as well? Not to be missed for those in the area. Bring the family and enjoy what Oxley Golf Club has on offer.
South Australia
Adelaide Shores – Limbs 4 Life National Golf Clinic Program – 22 October
Limbs 4 Life has a number of clinics throughout the country this October, partnering with local golf clubs to give people with a wide range of disabilities the chance to participate in golf. Inclusive for all, search your area or contact the Golf Month team to see where other disability clinics are being held during Golf Month.
Thaxted Park Golf Club – Thaxtest Your Skills Day – 16 October
Mini competitions on the driving range, as well as putting, nearest the pin and longest drive challenges will put your skills to the ‘Thaxtest’ this October. With the professional team on hand to help you throughout the day, Thaxted Park encourages anyone to come along and enjoy the afternoon of golf.
Wallaroo Golf Club – Chicks with Sticks – 18 October
Guaranteed to be a laugh, Wallaroo Golf Club is asking all women in the area to bring some friends along to enjoy a social clinic followed by champagne, wine or both (drink responsibly). Whether you dust off your own clubs or borrow some from the club, this free evening will be relaxed and sure to be a lot of fun.
Tasmania
Deloraine Golf Club – Free Family Golf Day – 16 October
For ages 10+, Deloraine is holding a nine-hole Ambrose competition with a BBQ to finish. Open to any skill level, Ambrose events are a great way to swing freely – just pick the best shot by your team each time.
Iron Pot Golf Club – Night Golf – 23 October
Golf is hard enough in daylight, right? Wrong! We can make it harder. Hilarious jokes aside, night golf is actually a really fun experience, using special golf balls that light up when used at night. In fact, it’s nowhere near as hard as we’re making it sound. Iron Pot Golf Club wants anyone in the community willing to try something different to get involved in night golf this October.
Victoria
Brighton Golf Club – Transition Golf Clinic – 8 October
Starting 8 October, Brighton Golf Club wants to sharpen your skills and get you ready for golf season. With the basics up first and working through to on course learning, why not get a head start on your friends (or bring them along) this October and register your interest for this four week clinic.
Chalambar Golf Club – Very Social Golf – 14 October
Rules were made to be broken, that’s why Chalambar has simplified the game for a six-week team competition. Official handicaps, no way! Well, you can actually have one team member who has one, but you get the drift. The relaxed three-person Ambrose format over nine holes is a great introduction to golf where you won’t have to worry about the rules.
Mount Beauty Golf Club – 1 Club Golf Day with Dinner – 25 October
Choose your weapon wisely! Will you tee off with your putter or putt with your driver?! The possibilities are (almost) endless, but the laughs will no doubt be plentiful. A mixed format over nine holes using only one club, with dinner to finish the day while sharing your stories and strategy.
Western Australia
Mount Lawley – AimPoint Express Green Reading Clinic – 29 October
Ever wondered why the pros stand behind the ball and just point at it? We thought perhaps they were Star Wars fans trying to use the Force, but apparently there’s something a little more logical happening. It’s known as AimPoint green reading.
Suitable for those who are a little more advanced in the game, Mount Lawley will take you through everything you need to know on the topic to help you understand why you thought that putt would go left, but it went right!
Meadow Springs Country Club – Divot Diva Day – 11 October
Divot Diva Day is open to all women – regardless of whether you’ve never played the game before or have a low handicap. The event format is nine-hole Ambrose, for which you will ride in a cart. Afterwards there will be a three-course luncheon and a fashion parade.
Bunbury Golf Club – MyGolf – 21 October
MyGolf is Australia’s national junior introductory program to develop and promote participation in golf. A 10-week introductory program to the sport, the MyGolf program is designed for five to 12-year-olds and is the major driver of junior golf participation in Australia. The Bunbury MyGolf program kicks off on October 21, but you can search the Golf Month website or visit www.mygolf.org.au for more information and to find a local program near you.
