Thomas wins it again!

Rebecca Thomas (Leongatha) took the Business Women’s Championship title for the second time after shooting the best round of the day 78, for a total gross of 158. In the Salver field, it was Marg Slessar (Box Hill) who took the honours with another consistent score of 34 points after 35 in her first round, for a total of 69 stableford points.

Excellent weather conditions prevailed for the second round of the tournament allowing Thomas and Huggard to concentrate in what really became a match play round. Starting two shots behind Thomas picked up a stroke over Huggard in the front nine by going one over par. Her steady performance continued in the difficult and tight back nine which demands precision tee shots. Adele’s start on the back nine was less than ideal. After having a double bogie on the 10th hole she birdied the 11th (nearly a hole in one) but it wasn’t sufficient to keep up with Thomas’s steadiness through the rest of the holes.

Marg Slessar (Box Hill) was overwhelmed at presentation as winning the Business Women’s Salver has been in her own words the most significant win in her golfing life. Rachel Piastri was the runner in the Salver with a fabulous round of 37 points for a total of 68 stableford points.

Special thank you to Marysville Golf Club, its women’s committee and all the volunteers that made this fantastic weekend possible. It was most definitely enjoyed by all. Participants as well as golf Victoria were very appreciative of their efforts. We hope we will back here real soon!

Day 1

Adele Huggard (Sandhurst) leads the Business Women’s Championship after a first round of 78, while Karen White (WGN) has taken the leading position in the Salver with 37 stableford points.

The Business Women’s Championship and Salver is on its way and the venue for this year’s event could not be better. Marysville GC welcomed a group of women who work and study to participate in this 2 day State Championship.

The weather was excellent magnifying the beauty of the surroundings and the course was in great condition, especially considering it is maintained mainly by volunteers. 2011 champion Rebecca Thomas (Leongatha) is only 2 shots behind Huggard in the Championship section (Handicaps 0-18) which will make it for an exciting second round. In the Salver field (handicaps 19-44) things may change considerably tomorrow – the question is: Can Karen White (WGN) maintain her leading position under pressure?
