2015 Federal Amateur Open winner Austin Bautista has gone to the top of the leader board in blustery conditions after day two of the 2016 Federal Amateur Open.
Hitting off with the wind at its peak, Bautista found himself in trouble early when he took a bogey on the par-three 3rd. He made amends however with a Birdie and Eagle on the 6th & 7th to erase his earlier mistake and set the tone for the remainder of his round. Bautista went on to record another three birdies and two bogeys on the back nine to card a three-under-par 69.
Queanbeyan’s Chloe Thornton carved out an exceptional four-over par 77 second roundin the conditions, and despite finishing with a disappointing double bogey on the 18th, was still able to remain one shot ahead of the NZ pair of Alanna Campbell and Amelia Garvey.
In another highlight, two players in the first group holed out to record Eagles on the front 9. Kieren Jones from Killara Golf Club holed his second shot on the par-four Second, while Andrew Nakone Jnr from the Grange Golf Club guided his second shot to the cup on the par-four Sixth.
