Three in a row for Claney

The last of the August Seniors Week teed off today at the Commonwealth Golf Club. A solid field of 77 enjoyed calm but chilly weather at the South Oakleigh located championship course. Commonwealth is one of eight Sandbelt clubs and has hosted numerous major events, including the 2010 & 2011 Women’s Australian Opens.

It was again Kingston Heath member Gordon Claney who carded an exceptional round of 75, two over par, to win by one from Guy Krall (The National). Gordon has now made it three in a row with wins at Royal Melbourne on Friday & yesterday at The Metropolitan.

Gordon was coasting at two under after 13 holes before a triple bogey on the 16th put a bump in his round. A lengthy par saving putt on the last was good enough to take the title.

In the nett, Western Australian Steve Langoulant (Mt. Lawley) had a respectful round of nett 72 off his handicap of 8 to win on a countback from The National’s Pat Giles.

A special thanks is given to all participating clubs for conducting their Senior Amateurs, along with a total of 511 entries across all six events. Golf Victoria hopes to see the majority of you back again on the Sandbelt in 2016.
